Hello, I am Erik van den Berg, born and bred in 's-Hertogenbosch in the South of The Netherlands and I am account manager at IQuality, a company which designs, develops and implements customized software, Internet and media solutions.
I have fished for over 30 years with a fly rod and over the years my fishing trips have taken me to many corners of the world in search of hungry fish. Through the years I have started to see fly fishing as "a way of life".
Catching fish is all very nice and important but there's so much more ! I already feel very lucky to be able to walk, with fly rod in hand, along a nice river or lake, away from the busy world, just doing whatever I feel like. My good friend Ton Lindhout calls it: "Being There". Quite right.
I try to carry this special feeling along into the rest of my, valuable, spare time. Which could mean drinking a cool pint of Guinness in a cozy pub or at the home of a friend. To have a special meal with friends or with my wife, enjoying a nice glass of wine, to finish it off with a smelly bit of cheese and a sip of old Malt Whisky... Just to give you some examples.
Books are a very important part of my fishing pleasures and I am proud of my well filled bookcase. More and more do I look for story or adventure books instead of the "how to" ones. It's not because I feel that I haven't got anything left to learn (a fisherman will keep on learning until his last day on earth) but it's because they give me the feeling of "being out there" although I'm sitting in my chair at home.
I always enjoy sharing my experience with other fly fishermen (and women) and the worldwide Internet is of course a great place for that. I hope that my web pages will be of your interest, I will update them from time to time with new stories and subjects.
If you have some time and you would like to leave your opinion, share a story or ask me something, just send me an e-mail.
